Why Music?

Music has a universal appeal that has stood the test of time. Why is this and why will it continue to become increasingly important?

Life is becoming automated, even music itself seems to be more or less losing its need for the human touch...

HOWEVER!

What makes people keep coming back for more is not just the sound coming out. Otherwise, we would go to a show where there is only a computer on stage that fires up Spotify.

I don't know about you, but I enjoy music for its humanity! The spectacle of a person jumping out of the matrix for a brief moment in time to interpret their experience rhythmically, melodically, sonically, psycho-jazzically(sp?).

So even as the world becomes more and more automated, music stands tall as a beacon that we are still alive, still relevant....

...STILL IMPORTANT! OK DR. TECHNOLOGY!??

This is why it is crucial that we continue nourishing our musical endeavors, because it's one human quality that can't be replicated.

I am speaking to:
You, hesitant musician: unsure of your place in the industry.
You, inadequate musician: who sees a band that's better than you and quits.
You, tone-deaf musician: who gets a minus 8 from Simon Cowell before even opening your mouth.

Yes, maybe you'll never be as good as ____________(fill in the blank)
But regardless of skill-level, no one will ever create music quite like you. It's your I.d. card for the universe. It's your fingerprint. And that is something we should all hang our hats on.

So let's hear it:

NO. ONE. ROCKS!
THE WAY. THAT I. ROCK!

NO. ONE...

....ok, end rant. Go make a Flint profile and meet other musicians :)

Music As Your Sigil

Music lies within everyone. Whatever comes out, becomes our sonic fingerprint and, over time, becomes a moldable personification of our inner-voice. It's how we communicate our story where words simply fall short. Each piece of music written becomes a stepping stone on our journey to self-discovery. Each time we are crafting the delivery and structure in such a way the last piece was lacking or could have been improved upon. There's no finish line, no perfect song (although sometimes the right one will strike gold) rather, it's just a continuous adventure that speaks to that moment of time in our lives. During your journey, you come across other characters also building their own story who help influence your writing process. These connections are the building blocks that create a community. A community formed around these types of connections are the kind we should strive to be around in all aspects of our lives. They facilitate the type of interactions that are ...

Music As a Bond

When people make music together they communicate in a way that goes beyond words. They're developing a language specific to the people they are making it with. This language expands a musician's ability to communicate their own music as it introduces a new dynamic outside of their own creative minds. Ultimately, this language becomes as valuable as it is irreplaceable. In a world where it seems more economically  feasible to be a solo-artist (not to mention also drama-free) let us not forget why we make music in the first place: To Connect with Others!  Those who say they make music for just themselves are most likely being modest, as we all utilize our experiences with someone else's music to influence our own, thus making music with someone else in mind! A-ha Gotcha! .....all this to say: Get on Flint !
